 Care Campaign For The Vulnerable

Care Campaign for the Vulnerable is learning of the pressures faced by conscientious led Care Providers striving to offer a caring and safe environment to both service users and staff. Safety monitoring is proving to be a invaluable care assist tool - bringing a more open and transparent culture into care homes as well as saving valuable resources within the care home sector and the NHS

Care Campaign for the Vulnerable supporting families that tell us are forced to sell family home to pay for a loved ones care...

The McDonald family now face losing the family home after their mother was stricken with a brain tumour

Judy McDonald's mother, before needing care.

''Our mother worked in a sewing factory for many years after leaving school and then became a home help ( which is now home care) and throughly enjoyed caring for the elderly. She did this job right up until she retired. My mum was diagnosed with terminal brain tumour GMB4 and receiving socially funded care when she first had to go in a care home. My mother was then reassessed after three months and we were told she no longer qualified. Her needs have not changed. She is bed bound and requires turning every two hours and needs assisting with feeding, washing and dressing and now unable to make her own decisions. She is fully reliant on care. We feel it's a disgrace her family are forced to sell our family home to pay for her care needs.

Families we support spoke to the Daily Mail on how they are selling off homes to keep up with care costs https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8554857/Britains-elderly-spent-7-4-BILLION-care-bills-year-despite-PMs-vow-fix-crisis.html

"It's a scandal our mother worked all her life just so she could pay for care after being stricken with a terminal brain tumour.''

Our mother has worked all her adult life and paid into the system. This government think it’s ok to treat our vulnerable elderly this way. Didn't they promise a fairer deal in regards to funding the care of our most elderly during the last election? They are failing those who voted for them. We are deeply distressed we now have to sell our family home to pay for her care something she has worked all her life for.'' Judy Mc Donald - Daughter.

Care Campaign for the Vulnerable statement

We and many others have continued to call out successive Governments on the injustice of such and yet no proposal has been forthcoming to remedy this act of dementia discrimination. We have for years called for promised Social Care reforms to address this issue and yet nothing. Many more older vulnerable people have since died in care facilities, years after having to sell their own home and having lost the opportunity to bequeath their family the only real value they had accrued over their working lifetime.

It's really time for society to stop this injustice as soon as possible.
