Our response to the PM's recent update on Covid restrictions

Carol Griffiths, a loving daughter denied pleas to be with her mother in her final moments in a care home

Care Campaign for the Vulnerable is disappointed the Prime Minister did not highlight the need for common sense to prevail in the care of our most vulnerable living in care homes in his recent COVID address. CCFTV is receiving an unprecedented amount of correspondence raising serious concerns from both carers and families regarding our elderly residents seriously declining in health both physically and emotionally during COVID visitation restrictions.

Families are contacting CCFTV and reporting elderly loved ones are feeling abandoned because care providers are not allowing visits even with PPE and full risk assessments. Many families saying even garden visits have been stopped.

Emma contacted us to report how her mother was evicted from her care home because she asked for a window visit when she saw her mum decline in health...

While we understand and accept many care providers are exercising compassion towards family visits and realising the importance of maintaining family contact with full risk assessment, it’s very evident a minority are ''shutting up shop'' regardless of the negative mental and physical impact this is causing our most vulnerable living in care homes. CCFTV fully understands and accepts the risk COVID brings but we implore care provider’s not to be blindsided with only protecting our elderly against COVID but forgetting many are dying or suffering greatly from feelings of loneliness, abandonment and neglect. It’s nothing short of a national disgrace that this Government is displaying just how out of touch they are when it comes to elderly in care homes and to those we as a society owe so much to.
