Martina Ferguson is taking on the care system for being denied the right to be with her elderly mother in a nursing home during the Covid pandemic. CCFTV is supporting families coming to us saying they would consider the same action. After CCFTV raised Ms Ferguson's case on our organisation we were contacted by her and she explained why she's taking this action.

“Thank you to CCFTV for raising this. It is actually with deep regret that I’ve had to go to the High Courts to try and achieve one of the simplest things in life, a Parent to see her daughter, my mother’s children. I feel I have been grieving the loss of my mother and she’s still alive.

Ms Ferguson is taking her case to the Belfast High Court

We will always be fighting for my Mum. She is so vulnerable like many thousands of other elderly residents in Care Homes. Connection is everything to them and their families. My mother’s care home and many more Care Homes across our country is not following Government Guidance issued 23 Sept 2020 which endorsed the ‘Care Partner’ role for each Resident (someone who has had a long standing relationship with the Resident and provided care prior to COVID) and the DOH instructed Care Homes to implement the Care Partner by 05 Nov - Care Homes were given six weeks to implement which I believe is reasonable timeframe. ~nine weeks now since 23 Sept and nothing.

''It's with deep distress I have had to take this course of action...''

''Not all families read the Government guidlines nor reported on the daily news...''

I’m very much aware that not every family reads the Government Guidance and it’s not all reported on daily news. Care Partners have really only hit the headlines following us families taking our cause to Stormont last Saturday and I have read the Government Guidance for Health Care settings including Care Homes.''

CCFTV has corresponded with Ms Ferguson and she has given CCFTV permission to highlight her case. If you are interested in this case study please contact ccftv.cares@gmail.com
