Care Campaign for the Vulnerable is learning of the pressures faced by conscientious led Care Providers striving to offer a caring and safe environment to both service users and staff. Safety monitoring is proving to be a invaluable care assist tool - bringing a more open and transparent culture into care homes as well as saving valuable resources within the care home sector and the NHS
When looking round this home it looks beautiful, but you soon learn that these lovely pristine areas are never used by the residents.
All you hear all day is buzzers going off and people shut in their rooms pleading for help and all the while, the staff are sitting around the staff station texting on their phones.
I am very pro-active when it comes to my mums care and having worked in paliative care and embracing the high standards expected, I was in for a shock when I moved my mum into this expensive home.
Record keeping and the hand over book is virtually none existent. This meant, when I told the head support worker that mum needed to be on meds assist, this wasn't noted and so medication just got dropped off in her room and not taken.
She took a bad fall and they didn't call for an ambulance for three days. The ambulance refused to come out because it had been three days. I had to carry her to my car without any help and get her to hospital. She had a fractured scapula and seven fractured ribs.
The staff turned against me when I repeatedly put my concerns to them. I felt bullied and I feared that their dislike for me would reflect on my mum.
One evening my mum called me crying and telling me that a support worker had told her they were going to kick her out. I honestly couldn't get her out of there quick enough.
Big complaint went in after leaving but had little response. Its still ongoing.
"The evidence from Providers who have installed CCTV seems to me to merit careful attention and to be quite persuasive"
