Care Campaign for the Vulnerable made contact with the Rights for Residents Group to acknowledge the incredible work they have undertaken campaigning for families to be allowed visiting rights in care homes. Founders, Diane and Jenny contacted CCFTV very early on in their campaign and both were determined to bring change when care homes were not allowing a family member in to be with loved ones during the Covid pandemic.

Care Campaign for the Vulnerable supported families who made contact reporting neglect happening in care during the Covid restrictions and saw a significant and worrying increase in families reporting care homes evicting vulnerable residents when families asked for essential caregiver status or complained about issues in a loved one's care.

Along with the challenges in the sector were inconsistent and confusing government guidance which certainly did not help staff but so many providers thankfully did show empathy in allowing family visits by carrying out appropriate risk assessments, however, there was still a minority acting “dictatorial “.

Protecting elderly residents from COVID but then many declining through neglect, isolation and loneliness can never be or should be a price to pay and ultimately from yesterday’s successful R4R March in London, must never be allowed to happen again.
