Care Campaign for the Vulnerable is learning of the pressures faced by conscientious led Care Providers striving to offer a caring and safe environment to both service users and staff. Safety monitoring is proving to be a invaluable care assist tool - bringing a more open and transparent culture into care homes as well as saving valuable resources within the care home sector and the NHS
Feedback from the families and staff CCFTV support is that the staffing shortfall crisis is intensifying in the care sector. Several providers have confirmed that they are already in a situation whereby they are mothballing a number of beds simply because staff are not available to provide care.
Whilst many care homes are trying to recruit internationally, that process takes time and as a result vulnerable people who are ready for care home discharge are - in many areas - languishing in hospital beds because providers cannot accept admissions given the serious staff shortage.
The Care Sector has had to not only navigate the issues around Brexit (many former employees of EU member states returned home) but also very recently, the compulsory release staff who did not wish to have their Covid vaccinations. These circumstances are creating quality issues at many homes, as staffing numbers plummet and vulnerable people have to wait very much longer for help and support with activities of living.
Nurse and Care agencies have simply responded to this crisis by doubling and tripling their payment rates knowing full well staff will continue to leave care homes to join that business. That compounds the situation for care homes that are already financially floundering and in time it will result not only in further homes closures but also a much greater erosion in the quality of care residents receive.
"The evidence from Providers who have installed CCTV seems to me to merit careful attention and to be quite persuasive"
