Care Campaign for the Vulnerable is learning of the pressures faced by conscientious led Care Providers striving to offer a caring and safe environment to both service users and staff. Safety monitoring is proving to be a invaluable care assist tool - bringing a more open and transparent culture into care homes as well as saving valuable resources within the care home sector and the NHS
We found out via the Covid enquiry, what many Care Providers essentially knew all along. There was no ‘ring of steel’ when it came to the Care Home Sector. Ref:- CARE HOME PROFESSIONAL https://www.carehomeprofessional.com/covid-inquiry-care-home-residents-condemned-to-die-alone-during-pandemic/
We heard from the Prime Ministers former advisor that our Government when making a choice to protect the NHS, knowingly sent infected patients to care homes where the risk of spread and fatalities was almost guaranteed.
It appears the explanation for that approach was ‘it was natures way and the elderly should accept their fate’.
Many of us night after night listened to a Covid press announcement, believing our Government was acting in the best interests of all of our citizens. Clearly that wasn’t the case and what compounds the horror is that despite this being Government sentiment, they simeltaneously insisted that lockdown could only be effective if Care Homes excluded all visitors and family members.
It’s hard to believe the betrayal that many families will be feeling today on hearing yesterday’s testimony from Dominic Cummings. To now know that they were actively prevented from visiting their loved ones when at the same time Government policy was to transfer infected patients from hospital to those care homes, was beyond cruel. It’s clear Ministers knew the risks of spread were high and that fatalities in care homes would increase as a result. Yet many of those poor residents were condemned to die alone, without the solace of a family member and without any oversight to know if their final hours were managed with dignity and respect.
"The evidence from Providers who have installed CCTV seems to me to merit careful attention and to be quite persuasive"
