On the 26th March 2018 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Gerrards Cross, a special meeting was held to discuss the many issues affecting today’s delivery of good consistent care within the dementia care sector. Founder and Director of Care Campaign for the Vulnerable Jayne Connery hosted the gathering and listened to the expertise of care home managers, home care providers, care industry professionals on the many reasons why the sector is struggling and family members contributed telling of inadequate care their loved ones are currently facing with very little transparency. Jayne Connery said ‘Everyone who sat around that table agreed on safety monitoring in public areas in all care homes. They each brought something to the table and everyone wants positive change.
How great it was to see professionals and family members whose loved ones are currently in the care system, come together and discuss the issues affecting not only professionals but loved ones also. The general consensus is most carers do an incredible job and often under extreme and difficult circumstances. So much needs to change to make the dementia care system workable and much easier to navigate. Families tell us on a diagnosis of dementia the support is not there or it’s extremely difficult to work around it. The passion was incredible and Care Campaign for the Vulnerable is so grateful for everyone’s important contribution’’.
