Our elderly living with dementia in care homes - show you CARE Boris

8th July 2020

SHOW YOU CARE BORIS

Over the last few months society has spoken extensively about COVID 19 in respect to our Carer’s, NHS, families and our older generation. Throughout this troubled time very little has been mentioned with any substance about elderly residents living with later stage dementia - our most vulnerable in care homes.

We have seen headlines with elderly relatives waving, clapping and moving tentatively towards windows to acknowledge loved ones, sitting in pods surrounded by glass and enjoying a cup of tea but are we thinking of the many who are in beds held back by their condition unable to enjoy those luxuries? Families are now coming to Care Campaign for the Vulnerable saying ‘enough’s enough''.

The general feeling amongst families that contact CCFTV is very little thought was considered at the beginning of lockdown to our elderly relatives with dementia who rely so much on a tender touch or the familiarity of spoken words. Loved ones say as care partners they play an important role keeping loved ones safe, hydrated, stimulated and assist with personal care.

We are urging the Government to Covid19 test care partners alongside carers and residents as well as to better fund this care sector. Our most vulnerable elderly living with dementia is a section of society that has been ultimately failed by this Government and it was evident from the off - did this Government really CARE?
